eJeevika has initiated 'Skills & Job Fair' Series for the rural youth of Tamilnadu.
The first Job Fair was conducted in Kanchipuram District which attracted around 800 unemployed youth to participate in the same.
This initiative was inaugurated by the Collector of Kanchipuram Thiru. Santosh Mishra. In his address the collector mentioned that the rural youth should try to be enterprising and should aim to become Job Providers.
The Job Fair helped the Team ejeevika to understand the profiles of the rural youth and the challenges faced by them at large.For example, we found out that the 10th and 12th pass candidates who are working as contract labor in some of the MNC's in Shriprembedur area are in a state of turmoil once their contract period is about to end. Usually the contract period is for 1 year and during this time they get a fairly decent salary of Rs. 4,000/- (with pick up and drop facility etc.). We met around 300 candidates of this profile who have no skills, no specific education (diploma/ITI) the experience which they have (mostly assembly line experience ), is not going to get them jobs any where else. If they decide to switch to some other function, they will get paid less than what they are used to. So, though in short term the Rs. 4000/- salary is very attractive but if they don't upgrade them selves with some skills they will lose out in long run.
There are many other observations which have strengthened our belief of 'bridging the skill gap' for the high growth industries.
The next Job Fair of the series is going to be held in Tiruvallur District on 7th & 8th Feb,09. Look forward to meeting more candidates and understanding their aspirations better.
For our Clients , we have created a robust , live database of 'Video Resumes' of rural youth which is search-able and can cater to their recruitment needs in a weeks time. All that they have to do is tell us the candidate's they are interested in , after seeing their video profiles which are available for free on our website.n We will train the selected candidates in the 'Specific' skills required by the clients in 10- 15 days time and the candidate will join them immediately.
